Started reading POTB tonight and decided to do a little research on Geraldine Brooks. I simply googled her and came away with lots of information about her life, discussion questions, a map pertinent to the book and book reviews. The site is www.geraldinebrooks.com and there is a NPR interview when I have time to be listened to.

Really cold today, Lost power twice. Went to the library and got three reads for book club - People of the Book, The Pick Up and The Secret Scripture. Will start with POTB as it is our January book.

Book selections for our book club are posted. Looking forward to reading all of them. Received some great books for Christmas. Have been trying to keep up with the newspapers. Love the printed version and do not look forward to the day when it is obsolete. Always find some article of interest. Today it was in the business section regarding the Danish company Lego.

Merry Christmas! Wonderful day spent with my family. Three generations.

Fun evening last night at our December meeting which includes a potluck dinner and Yankee Swap. I tried to reinstitute a book/discussion, which we used to do, but no one but me had read the book! Lots of good food, thoughtful gifts for the swap and simply a nice evening with friends.
I found the book Are You There God? It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume to be on target. And in researching I came across a book of essays in which authors discuss those books that influenced their lives and are still read today. Meg Cabot wrote the essay about this particular book.

Lots of snow last night. Maybe 8-10". Luckily it won't interfere with our Christmas meeting tomorrow night with annual potluck dinner and Yankee Swap.

Finished the December book selection last night. A Young Adult book by Judy Blume- Are You There God? It's Me Margaret. I can see why kids would like it. Need to do a little research on Judy Blume and get some questions to help with discussion.

Great turnout for the discussion of Infidel. Really good discussion, very thought provoking. This book was suggested to me by a friend at my church. It had been a selection by the church reading group. I had not read it prior to suggesting it but am glad I took the chance to bring it to my group's attention. Lots to think about and an interesting view as a Muslim. Quite a story.
I also just read Say You're One of Them which presents a child's view of five different scenarios of African life. Haunting, depressing, well written, again thought provoking.
